City of Clermont is Hiring a Police Cadet (sponsored position) Near Clermont, FL

Selected applicants will receive a full sponsorship for all costs associated with attending a Basic Law Enforcement Academy to include tuition, books, and fees not covered by the GI Bill (if applicable); plus employment as a CPD Cadet, 40 hours per week, while enrolled in the Academy. Upon acquisition of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) law enforcement officer certification, the selected applicant will be appointed to Police Officer and will receive pay and benefits commensurate with that classification.
This position is non-exempt. Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions will apply.

Per Florida Statute 295.065, certain servicemembers and veterans, and the spouses and family members of such servicemembers and veterans, receive preference and priority, and that certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.The selected applicant agrees to attend all classes and labs required to successfully pass the curricula of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy. During periods of class recess, the selected applicant agrees to perform work for the Clermont Police Department as assigned by the CPD Administrative Services Commander or their designee.
 
Pursuant to Florida Statute 943.16, the selected applicant agrees to reimburse the Clermont Police Department for all costs incurred during the sponsorship period including tuition, book and training materials costs, pre-employment examination fees, and other associated costs in the event the selected applicant terminates employment prior to the conclusion of the employment contract. Termination includes: 
  • Recruit withdraws from the Academy, or is terminated by Academy authorities, or fails to complete the Academy in a timely fashion; or 
  • Recruit fails to obtain Law enforcement / Corrections Officer certification from FDLE; or 
  • Recruit voluntarily resigns or abandons his/her position before working as a certified officer for the Clermont Police Department for a period of two years following successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy and successful passing of state examination; or 
  • The Chief of Police revokes the applicant's appointment during that period of time. 
The Clermont Police Department will pay for one (1) state certification examination.
Ability to attend full-time (40-hours per week) Basic Law Enforcement or Corrections Academy.
  • Must be 20 years of age for Law Enforcement before graduation from the academy.
  • A United States citizen.
  • High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma/GED. 
  • No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving perjury or false statement.
  • Not have a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
  • Must be able to take and pass a physical exam, physical abilities test and drug screen.
  • Must successfully complete the CPD hiring / background process, including a polygraph examination and psychological examination.
